Yoram Kaniuk, geb. 1930 in Tel Aviv, ist einer der bedeutendsten israelischen Schriftsteller. Sein Vater stammt aus Galizien und war Gründungsdirektor des Tel Aviv Museum of Modern Art. Seine Mutter stammt aus Russland und kam 1909 als Kind nach Palästina. Am 17. Januar 2013 wird im Berliner Aufbau Verlag Kaniuks Roman „1948“ erscheinen, ein Schlüsselroman zur Geschichte Israels.
