On Saturday night in Spain, former IBF world featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich (21-1-1, 9 KO) of Russia had to use all of his resources to win a tough majority decision over Mexican brawler Jesus Galicia (13- 9-1, 8 KO).

There has been a lot of talk regarding a fight between Gradovich and WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire.

In a recent interview on BoxingScene.com, Donaire’s manager Cameron Dunkin expressed his doubts about Gradovich’s ability to get down to the super bantamweight limit of 122-pounds. Because of that, Donaire is now likely to face Zsolt Bedak.

Gradovich himself is unsure of his ability to get down in weight. The fight with Galicia took place at 128-pounds. The “Russian-Mexican” plans to drop down, or at least try, to 124 for his next fight in April. If he can do it, then he will attempt to make 122 for his third fight of the year.

“We have not yet dropped down below [my current division], because it wasn’t possible [for my recent fight]. As soon as it is [possible to do so], I imagine we will.  Regarding the possibility of a fight with Filipino Nonito Donaire? Yes [that will happen], but I won’t go into that [fight] immediately. We will first try to make 124 pounds in April, and then in the next battle we will drop down to 122 pounds. But right now it is too early [to go into that fight], it is necessary to work gradually [to get down to that weight],” Gradovich told Championot.
