Five human rights activists of Mexican decent are suing presidential candidate Donald Trump and his security detail following a violent altercation that occurred during a protest outside Trump’s campaign headquarters, the plaintiffs’ attorney Benjamin Dictor told Sputnik.

“Plaintiffs were attacked and their property destroyed for the express objective of interfering with their political speech while they were lawfully and peacefully assembled on the public sidewalk in front of the headquarters of Donald J. Trump for America, Inc.”, the complaint stated.

ny1 Security guard Keith Schiller punched Galicia, who was protesting outside of Trump Tower as Trump signed his loyalty oath to the Republican Party. ny1 Schiller also took Galicia’s sign that implied Trump is racist.

Last week, Trump’s team claimed that his security guard was assaulted and that they would be pursuing legal action against the protesters.

Efrain Galicia, Florencia Tejeda Perez, Gonzalo Cruz Franco, Johnny Garcia and Miguel Villalobos were protesting Trump´s immigration policies on the sidewalk outside Trump Tower, where Trump gave an interview about his bid for the 2016 election. The campaign indicated at the time that it was itself considering filing charges against the protesters.

The suit says the group was taking aim at Trump because of his “unsubstantiated and inflammatory claims” at his presidential announcement that Mexico has been sending people to the US who are “bringing drugs”. The demonstrators are alleging assault, civil theft of property and interference with political speech.
