The high court of Galicia, Spain, has rejected Manuel Fernandez de Sousa-Faro’s claims for compensation over the end of his employment with Pescanova, reports Faro de Vigo.

Fernandez, who led Pescanova as chairman for 33 years, should not be compensated by the company “at all”, ruled the judge.

The Galicia judge is the second to dismiss Fernandez’s claims.

The former chairman and son of Pescanova’s founder is seeking €663,199 in compensation for alleged unfair dismissal.

In October last year, Fernandez’ lawyer called for a compensation of 20 days per year worked by Fernandez, who joined the company in 1977, and resigned on July 17, 2013.

A few months before his resignation, Fernandez ceased his functions as Pescanova’s chairman. It was in April, when Deloitte was appointed as administrator of the seafood multinational and Fernandez was removed from his duties.

Thereafter, the bankruptcy administrator decided to stop paying Fernandez his salary of €55,266 per month.

A Spanish judge at the time considered “hardly credible” that Fernandez was not aware of the revocation of his powers, rejecting Fernandez’s claims for unfair lay-off.
