Spain’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has begun the tendering process to find a company to take over a former small arms plant in the northwest region of Galicia that had been run by Santa Bárbara Sistemas (SBS), the Spanish arm of General Dynamics, until it was closed down last year.

An MoD spokesperson said on 25 April that – as bidders have until 15 May to present – the ministry could not yet comment on reports from the region that at least three companies are seeking to rent the factory in A Coruña.

The tender conditions include an annual rent to the MoD and a level of “technical solvency, based on their experience and activity in the sectors [included] in their business plan”.
