Anfaco receives financial support for new RD projects

The National Association of Manufacturers of Canned Fish and Shellfish (Anfaco-Cecopesca) is one of the Galician technological centres that will receive financial support through the Feder-Innterconecta Galicia Programme. A total of EUR 74.3 million will be destined to 79 Galician research and development (RD) projects, involving 292 companies and numerous research groups.

This Programme, which is managed in Galicia by the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) and the Galician Agency for Innovation, provides aid in the form of grants co-financed by the Technology Fund to promote the technological and industrial progress of the community through high-technology projects having high added value stimulating the creation of skilled jobs.

One of the industrial sectors with higher active participation is the Galician sea- agri food.

And nine projects have already been approved, representing 11 per cent of the total number of granted initiatives.

In addition, the companies in this sector are actively involved in other initiatives having environmental and eco-innovation character.

In this context, Anfaco is involved in a total of eight research, development and innovation (R+D+ i) projects, mobilizing EUR 15 million in the Feder-Innterconecta Galicia Programme and in collaboration with 40 companies in the Galician sea-agri food and other research organizations.

These initiatives are led by large business groups such as Jealsa-Rianxeira, Grupo Calvo, Feiraco and Grupo Coren, and with a large participation of medium and small firms.

Some of the main research lines addressed in these projects are:

  • The comprehensive improvement of the tuna processing process;
  • The improvement of mollusc production;
  • The development of tools for early toxic episode detection and marine biotoxin management;
  • The development of new healthy foods and quality certification;
  • The industrial process improvement and new energy production systems based on renewable energy.
