A broken natural gas line near the intersection of Highway 24 and Meridian Road in Falcon shut down the highway for a about two hours Wednesday morning.

Falcon Fire Department Battalion Chief Corey Galicia said construction workers accidentally hit a natural gas line around 10:22 a.m. near the Diamond Shamrock gas station. No one was injured.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Joe Roybal said deputies provided traffic control.

Colorado Springs Utilities crews will stay at the scene to fix the gas leak completely.

“We notified the Patriot Learning Center and Pike’s Peak Community College to let them know of the leak,” Galicia said. “We asked everyone to stay put while we worked on it and monitored the weather.”

Highway 24 reopened around 11:45 a.m. in both directions.
