Galician Audiovisual Cluster looks to future

Spanish audiovisual clusters play an increasingly important role in the development of the audiovisual market, said Mar Varela, representative of the Galician Audiovisual Cluster, in an interview with Rapid TV News Spain, especially in times of crisis like these.

“Clusters – the intermediate bodies between a company, an agency and a university – provide information about possible synergies between partners and other innovative players and this very valuable information drives new business. A cluster acts as a catalyst for these potential new businesses. By contacting companies, identifying potential synergies between these businesses, and providing specialty information on new business models, etc, a cluster’s role is to drive new business within a group of companies that are its partners,” says Mar Varela.

But what is the benefit for the companies associated with these bodies? “Our strategic lines are defined in the agency’s strategic plan and offer internationalisation, RD, and specialized training. We have a strategic cross-business collaboration that has always been our workhorse to achieve collaboration between companies in these areas. And what we are seeing is that after couple of years of working in this way companies are more receptive to tackle collaborative projects, to join with other companies for larger projects led by the cluster,” he explains.

Regarding the Galician cluster activities, Mar Varela said: “We are dealing with the international business of thematic channels. In the cluster we have a group working on this issue. Other companies working from within the cluster include cable operators and content producers. And we are also working on how SMEs can get into the video-game business.”

Last year the cluster developed a strategic plan regarding the digital content industry in Galicia. The plan provides a mapping of how the Galician audiovisual data market was in 2010 and sets a strategy for the future transition from the conventional to the digital content industry, concludes Varela.
