Wood-Ridge – Magdalena Menendez (Madeline), 94, died Aug. 19.

She was born in a small town in Galicia, Spain. She came to the United States at the age of 10 and often spoke fondly of her first sailing into New York harbor and her first sight of the Statue of Liberty. She was proud to become an American citizen and loved the United States as much as her native Spain. Together with her husband, Cesar “Teddy” Menendez and their partner, Manuel Garcia, they owned and successfully operated the banquet facility The Fiesta in Wood-Ridge. After selling the Fiesta, she moved to the Costa del Sol in Spain where she lived for 30 years. Eleven years ago she returned to the United States.

Surviving are her daughters, Madeline O’Connor, Irene Coleman and Rosita DeCotiis; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Henry Fernandez.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
