SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Softball and baseball coaches from all over Nevada voted five South Shore players to the 2A and 3A all-state teams.

While no player was a first team selection, Whittell had three softball players earn all-state recognition. Amanda Harris and Megan Miller were second team selections, while Emily Harris was an honorable mention selection.

Amanda Harris pitched a majority of the innings for the Warriors this season. She finished the regular season with a 2.94 ERA. She recorded 130 strikeouts, including an 11-strikeout game against Hug early this season according to Max Preps. The junior had six one-hit games, including one in the playoffs against Silver Stage.

“She’s a true competitor she’s getting a very good understanding of the strategy of the game and how to pitch. Behind her parents I’m her number one fan,” said Whittell head coach Dave Galicia. “She was a work horse for us. I asked a lot of her. She had no issues to step up and deliver. She’s the kind of player coaches love to have on their team.

“Her sister Emily (Harris) is another outstanding young lady. A team player all the way, and really an unsung hero. The pitcher gets a lot of the attention. The catcher, really does a lot of the work.”

Emily Harris was a Mount Rose all-league second team selection. According to Max Preps, she finished the regular season with a .330 batting average, with 16 RBIs and 24 scored runs.

“She did really well batting. She came through when she had to,” Galicia said. “She is very good behind the plate, intelligent girl.”

Miller, one of the few seniors on the team, was a terror on the base paths for opposing teams. The shortstop was never caught stealing the 42 times she tried. She had a .448 batting average, able to squeeze out a single on a bunt consistently. She crossed the plate 49 times out of the 118 times she batted according to Max Preps.

“If she walked or hit a single, it was a double. She would steal the next base right away. She really was a team player and helped the whole team to the point her teammates voted her most inspirational,” Galicia said. “She always had a green light. There was three instances where she had an outright steal of home. She would notice the pitcher make a mistake then she would look at me and go ‘coach’ and I would just nod my head and the next time the pitcher made a mistake she would steal home.”

South Tahoe’s Sid Loomis was a second team selection for the 3A all-state softball team. The Catcher ended the season batting hitting .522 with 21 RBIs and scoring 24 runs according to Max Preps. She is just a junior but will graduate early this year.

In baseball, Colton Marchesseault was a second team selection as a pitcher. The senior was a bright spot in a difficult season for the Vikings. According to Max Preps Marchesseault recorded 93 strikeouts over 13 outings. He finished with a 3.07 ERA. He also contributed at the plate, hitting .364 with 21 RBIs and scoring 18 runs. Against Truckee this year, Marchesseault recorded 16 strikeouts in one game and was a first team selection on all-Mount Rose League first team.
