Sophomore Jordan Banwarth did a good job representing the Woodland Christian at the 32nd annual Sacramento Meet of Champions on Saturday. As the lone Cardinals’ athlete at the event at American River College, she earned a medal for finishing in fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles.

Banwarth’s 46.51 was good for second place in her heat and is a personal record.

“This is the point of the season where you want to start peaking,” Woodland Christian coach Natalie Smith said. “She’s very happy (with her result).”

More than 800 athletes from nearly 150 schools entered the event. It was relocated to American River College this year because of renovations to Hughes Stadium at Sacramento City College.

Earlier in the week, the full Cardinals team competed in the third Central Valley California League Meet at Delta High.

Banwarth stacked up four first place finishes on Wednesday, winning the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 400-meter dash and as the anchor of the 4×400 with Jersey Johnson, Kendall Winn and Abbey Johnson.

Senior Celeste Galicia finished right behind Banwarth in the 100 hurdles, taking second place.

Senior Beau Chandon had one of the best results on the boys side, taking first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.7. Sophomore Kameron Arnold took fourth in the 400 at 61 seconds.

Senior Brandon Brooks took first place in the shot put.

Woodland Christian is off until May 9 when the team competes in the CVCL/SMAL/NPAC League Finals

at Delta at 3 p.m., with spots in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV-V Meet for all first-place finishers.
