A man wanted in New York for allegedly stabbing his step-daughter several times is arrested after a car crash in Columbia County.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) — A man wanted in New York for allegedly stabbing his step-daughter several times is arrested after a car crash in Columbia County.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of Appling Harlem Rd. and I-20 at 7:18 this morning. Deputies say a Toyota Corolla driven by Walter Carpio-Galicia, 32, turned in front of a Ford Explorer and was hit. Officials say three people were taken to Doctor’s Hospital with minor injuries.

Deputies say while investigating the crash, it was discovered Carpio-Galicia is wanted in Spring Valley, New York for attempted murder. He is accused of stabbing his 15-year-old step-daughter was stabbed several times.

The sheriff’s office says Carpio-Galicia was detained at the hospital until he was treated and released. He is currently being held at the Columbia County Detention Center waiting to be extradited back to New York.
