The head of the Ministry of Marine Affairs of Galicia, Rosa Quintana, will meet with representatives of the purse seine industry associations of Galicia to analyze and seek the minimum fishing opportunities for vessels that do not have quota.

The purpose of the meeting, to be held on Tuesday, is to reach a common position of the industry quota reallocation to be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

Rosa Quintana explained that in the previous meeting with the sector on 22 December, it was agreed that the sector would refer to the Ministry of Marine the ratio of those vessels with problems to establish historical amounts.

“Some associations submitted them others did not, and therefore the study we are committed to do to assess how many ships had the problem and see the fishing opportunities for species such as jack mackerel, extended over time,” she said.

“Now that we were able to get the data, next week [the current one] we will be meeting with them to analyze the figures and see the reassignment possibilities,” the minister added.
