The fate of a Bluffton woman who disappeared two years ago remains unknown and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving the mystery.
Margarita Gonzalez-Almazan, 47, was reported missing Dec. 1, 2013, from her home by family members after a fight with her boyfriend, Osman Galicia-Escobedo, 40.
Gonzalez-Almazan’s cell phone was found on the side of the road off Highway 170 near the Lemon Island Bridge, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release issued Tuesday. There were also signs of a struggle, the release said. Both Gonzalez-Almazan’s and Galicia-Escodedo’s vehicles were missing, the release said.
The release said the Sheriff’s Office suspects foul play involving Galicia-Escobedo, who also disappeared.
His last known whereabouts were on the south side of Savannah where witnesses said they saw him several hours after Gonzalez-Almazan’s disappearance with what appeared to be fingernail scratches on the side of his face, the release said.
Galicia-Escobedo purchased a ticket at the Savannah Airport to Guatemala but never showed up for the flight.
Several days later, his vehicle was found abandoned outside Keller’s Flea Market near Savannah, the release said.
The vehicle was tested for forensic evidence, but no clues to help find either Gonzalez-Almazan or Galicia-Escobedo were found.
