Ukraine has completely closed its airspace to Russian airlines, including overflights, according to Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk.

aeroflot3Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk announced that his government has decided to close the country’s airspace to all Russian planes as “an issue of the national security as well as a response to Russia’s aggressive actions. The prohibition applies to the whole Russian civil aviation and all airlines.”

Ukraine last month banned all Russian airlines from flying into Ukraine but Russian civil planes have been allowed to fly over its territory.

Russian airlines used to make about 450 flights a month to Ukraine, and about half of that were made from Ukraine to Russia.
