Galicia seeks to strengthen fisheries and trade relations with Cape Verde

The secretary of Marine Affairs of Galicia, Rosa Quintana, accompanied by the Director General of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Technological Innovation, Juan Maneiro, recently held several meetings with representatives of various institutions and companies in Cape Verde in order to strengthen fisheries and trade relations between the African country and Galicia.

The Galician authorities, together with a group of shipowners and members of associations of shipowners with interests in the region, met with the director of the Enacol national fuel company.

Moreover, Quintana met with the director of Enapor, a public entity under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Maritime Economy of Cape Verde responsible for the management of the ports of this country.

The objective of these meetings is to improve logistics and supply provisions of the Galician vessels operating in the area and advance the use of the port of Mindelo, on the Cape Verdean island of San Vicente, as an operating platform.

The Galician authorities also had a meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure and Maritime Economy, Sara Maria Duarte Lopes, to establish a shared working line in areas such as training and fisheries research.

These meetings are added to those held by the Secretary to the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, and the Minister of Tourism and Business Investment, Leonesa Fortes.

Enacol is a publicly-held company dedicated to fuel trade. Its main purpose is to import, process, deliver, transport, store and market hydrocarbons and their derivatives. In addition, the distribution and trade of other forms of non-fossil energy, that is to say, the solar, wind, hydro power as well as those of other renewable sources.

Moreover, one of the functions of Enapor includes the space availability to store and preserve the goods within the port area. It has among its main objectives the development and economic growth of Cape Verde through the modernization and expansion of port infrastructure and equipment, and holding talks with companies to increase their participation in the port sector.
