VIGO, Spain – Celta Vigo defender Gustavo Cabral, who was born in Argentina, has obtained Spanish citizenship “in the past few hours” and will no longer count as a foreign player on the roster, the Spanish team said Thursday.

The 30-year-old Cabral joined the squad from Levante in the 2012-2013 season and has played more than 100 matches with the team from Vigo, a city in the northwestern region of Galicia, Celta said in a statement.

Cabral’s contract with the Galician team ends on June 30, 2016, but the club included a clause in the deal that gives it the option to unilaterally renew the contract.
