Estrella Galicia’s owner and master brewer were in London yesterday for a showcase of the company’s beers, along with food pairing and a beer cocktail demonstration. A new addition to the range, 1906 Black Coupage, was part of the line-up of beers on the day.
Tapas Revolution’s Omar Allibhoy paired the range of four beers with Galician tapas, starting with octopus paired with the 0% beer in the range, followed by the core Estrella Galicia Premium Lager with padrón peppers. Chorizo required a strong beer, Allibhoy explained, bringing 6.5% abv 1906 Reserva Especial into play, to great effect. But the star of the show was the new 1906 Black Coupage with chocolate cake made with the beer itself.
Michele Tuveri, Bibendum PLB trade marketing manager, took to the stage to present a pair of inventive beer cocktails. The first incorporated a syrup consisting of salted caramel and oolong tea, fat-washed with butter for good measure, while the second incorporated Black Coupage into a White Russian-style drink.
The new 1906 Black Coupage is Estrella Galicia owner Corporación Hijos de Rivera’s first dark beer, launched late last year, and now new to the UK. In addition, expect to see three of the company’s craft ciders from the Maeloc range here soon, with an official launch set for early next year.
The Estrella Galicia range, now part of the Instil Drinks Company portfolio, was launched by PLB in 2012, before PLB’s acquisition by Instil parent company Bibendum last year.
