NEAR LAKE WORTH (CBS12) — We’re  hearing for the first time from the mother of a young woman killed in a plane crash last week near Lake Worth.

The victim, Banny Galicia, 21, was asleep in her bedroom when the plane crashed into her family’s mobile home.

Workers got down to the grim job of cleaning up the site Tuesday morning.  A lifetime’s worth of possessions scooped up and hauled away within minutes.

A crew  using heavy equipment converged on what’s left of the mobile home at the Mar Mak Colony Club Mobile Home Park.  What was once a young woman’s bedroom is now just a pile of charred debris and rubble.

Banny Galicia died when a plane slammed into her bedroom, killing her and the pilot, Dan Shalloway, 64, of Palm  Beach Shores.

Amid the debris, CBS12 could see the burned mattress springs and a microwave oven.  And there were various scraps of metal that could be salvaged, placed in a separate pile.

As workers cleared away the broken items and scorched bits and pieces, a makeshift shrine is growing nearby in Banny’s honor with flowers, a large photo of her and candles.

“I think my eyes are dry I  cried so much.  I already cried a lot,” said Marta Lopez Galicia, Banny’s mother.  She spoke to CBS12 through an interpreter.

Banny was the youngest of five children.

Banny’s mother was visiting relatives in Guatemala last Tuesday when the plane crashed into the mobile home, killing Banny as she slept.

“But l’m glad that my daughter’s now resting in heaven.   And I’m glad that God took her with him and she was a really Christian girl and she really was a  really good  girl,” she said.

She flew back to Florida on Sunday from Guatemala, knowing that her beloved daughter was gone.  She says the only thing getting her through this is her faith.

“To stay strong what I do is I pray and pray and I pray.  And now I know that if I do right and I keep my relation with God, one day I will see her again.  I really loved my daughter. She was really happy all the time and I really can’t forget those moments,” said Marta Lopez Galicia.

The NTSB has not released the cause of the crash.  Investigators found the plane’s engine, but little else was left of the plane.

A memorial service for Banny is set for Thursday night at Lake Worth High School’s auditorium.

Her remains will be flown to Guatemala for burial there early next week.

The family has set up a fund at Wells Fargo bank to help cover the funeral costs.

Contributions can be made at any Wells Fargo bank to the Domingo Galicia Fund.  The account number is 6451510694.
