Plane crashes into Florida mobile home park
Filed Under EN
The National Transportation Safety Board began its investigation Wednesday on what caused a small plane to crash into a mobile home park, killing two people. Boggs said no one besides the pilot was believed to be aboard the plane and no one else was injured on the ground.
“We are very fortunate in a mobile home park that it was a large (fire) and only two mobile homes were affected”, Boggs said.
One resident of the park said he feared his daughter, Banny Yaneli Galicia, 21, died when the plane crashed into one of the mobile homes. That’s when he heard the plane.
He said when he tried to call out to her all he saw was smoke. When fire rescue officials arrived, one mobile home was completely ablaze and another was partially on fire, he said.
Seconds after the plane descended, there was an explosion and a fireball.
“We’re wanting to know not just why the accident happened, but we also want to understand what happened and we’re going to prevent it in the future”, Boggs said. Domingo Galicia said he called out to his daughter, “Banny, Banny, Banny come on, but nothing”. He said he was blocked by flames when he went to open the door to the home. She never made it out.
She was a student at Palm Beach State College, liked listening to Christian music and was active in her church.
It’s unknown how many people were onboard the plane when it went down. No information has been released on the pilot or any passengers.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration arrived at about 9 p.m. Tuesday at the scene, south of Lake Worth Road and west of Congress Avenue and about 3 miles north of the Lantana airport.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department advised the FAA that a small aircraft crashed into a mobile home park in Lake Worth Tuesday.
