Xinjiang Lamb Tussle

The Tajik people in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region get together for “lamb tussling” every year to celebrate the approaching spring in March.

The game was listed as a intangible cultural relic for the autonomous region in 2010. The host of the game places a decapitated lamb in the middle of a field about 100 meters wide. Contestants ride their yaks, go for the lamb, grab it and try to drop it into a hole about 60cm deep and 50cm wide. The victory belongs to the team whose teammate reaches the goal first.
