Estrella Galicia 0.0 Riders Quartararo And Navarro Ruled Out At Misano

After undergoing a medical checkup this morning it has been confirmed that as a precaution Navarro will not take part in tomorrow’s race. Nor will his teammate Fabio Quartararo, who is to have an operation on his right ankle in the coming days in Barcelona.

“The safety of the riders is always the most important point for us”

“Fortunately, Jorge Navarro is now much better than yesterday after the scare we all had. It was a very serious accident and the medical team from the Clinica Mobile at the circuit have decided, as a precaution, not to give approval for Navarro to ride today. We, as a team, share the same view as the doctors. Due to the blow to the head as pointed out this morning by Dr. Charte, Navarro has micro hemorrhages caused by the rupture of tiny blood vessels and to avoid risks, it has been decided he should not participate in qualifying or the race here at the Grand Prix of San Marino. In the case of another crash it could be dangerous for the rider.”

“Navarro is doing very well this year and he really wanted to race here, especially after his progress in recent races, but in the end the important thing is to be aware of the safety of the riders. This morning he got up feeling well and unsurprisingly, he didn’t understand why he can’t ride today. For him, this situation is a blow because it comes after him doing very well and he also had good experiences here last year. However, there are many races to go and Jorge still has many years ahead, in which I am sure will give us many reasons to celebrate. For the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team the most important thing is to ensure the safety of our riders, so we agree that he should not go back out on track this weekend.”

“For Fabio Quartararo, with the crash he suffered in yesterday’s FP2 the outer malleolus of the right foot was broken. Such fractures need surgery and, for a normal person, recovery can be two or three months. However, Fabio will be in good hands with Dr. Mir, who is already waiting for him in Barcelona, where Quartararo will travel today with his manager. We need some time to see whether he can ride at Aragon or not. But in the end this is racing, we have to pull together as a team because this weekend we found ourselves in an unexpected situation, although we all agree that the safety of the riders is always the most important thing.”

“The sensible thing was not to go out on track and to be ready for Aragon”

“This morning I visited doctors at the circuit and the situation was quite clear. After the crash yesterday, the sensible thing was not go out on track, to rest and be ready for Aragon, so that’s what I’ll do. Yesterday I felt a little faint, not quite dizzy, but I was not feeling very well. So, last night I went to bed early, I rested and I got up very well this morning. I remember the crash. As I got to the back straight of the circuit behind another pilot, I overtook him entering the corner and I had to close a little more than usual, touching the curbs with the front wheel, and I lost the steering. When I was falling, the other rider came very close to me and, as I couldn’t do anything about it, he collided with me. However, physically I haven’t been badly hurt, only a burn on the back of the shoulder because the other rider’s wheel hit me from the neck to the middle of the back. Also I have an injured finger, but nothing else. It is a shame not to ride here, but now I’ll spend a few days at home resting and on Wednesday or Thursday will have another checkup. If everything is ok, from there we will begin to prepare for Aragon.”
