Nearly a week after they were hit and pushed by members of Donald Trump’s security team, protesters are now suing the Republican presidential candidate.
They said that in previous confrontations with Trump security guards, New York City police officers advised the security detail that the protesters were permitted to protest on the public sidewalk in front of Trump Tower.
The suit has been brought against Trump, his campaign, his LLC, and the guards.
Video of the protest captured Trump’s head of security Keith Schiller smacking Galicia in the face after Galicia appeared to reach for a blue sign bearing the words “Trump: Make America Racist Again” – a take on the billionaire’s campaign slogan about making country great again.
“In my case, they beat me, something I never imagined could happen to me in the United States”, Galicia told EFE, adding that Trump’s security personnel used violence “because they know that their boss approves of it”.
The candidate’s guards had previously harassed the Mexican protesters at two other similar demonstrations in July and August, the suit says.
“You had a group of people on a public sidewalk who were assaulted violently by private security guards for Donald Trump’s corporation and his campaign committee”, Dictor said on Wednesday.
The plaintiffs are accusing the real estate magnate and his security chief of several crimes, ranging from violent assault, theft of property and interfering with their right to political expression during a September 3 protest.
