Erik Pendzich/REX Shutterstock/Erik Pendzich/REX Shutterstock Members of Trump’s security squad violently and unlawfully quashed Efrain Galicia’s public protest outside Trump Tower during The Donald’s campaign speech last Thursday, Galicia and four other Mexican activists charge in papers filed in Bronx Supreme Court.
A group of Latino activists went to the site on Fifth Aveneue to protest offensive comments made by Trump against Mexicans, and the candidate’s security detail assaulted at least three people, according to the filing.
Video footage captured by several news outlets and disseminated on television and on social media shows a security guard punching a protester in the face after the demonstrator approached the guard from behind in an attempt to retrieve his sign.
The lawsuit was filed by Galicia, Florencia Tejeda Perez, Gonzalo Cruz Franco, Johnny Garcia and Miguel Villalobos.
“Plaintiffs were attacked and their property destroyed for the express goal of interfering with their political speech while they were lawfully and peacefully assembled on the public sidewalk in front of the headquarters of Donald J. Trump for America, Inc.”, the complaint stated.
Last week, a campaign spokesperson told NY1 the protesters were harassing people on the street and claimed a member of Trump’s security team was assaulted, adding the campaign would be pursuing legal action.
The immigrants were demonstrating outside the Manhattan building when they say they had their civil rights violated. The campaign indicated at the time that it was itself considering filing charges against the protesters.
In announcing his presidential bid on June 16, Trump said illegal immigrants from Mexico bring mostly drugs and crime to the United States.
