The youngster, named locally as Uxia, had been in a critical condition with severe head injuries since the Saturday’s crash in the small town of Carral, in Galicia, in the north west of the country.

She died in intensive care at 10.30pm last night, local media reported.

A pregnant woman who was due to give birth today (MON) and her partner were also killed in the accident.

Ana Cayazzo and her partner Miguel Caridad, both in their 20s, died instantly when they were struck by one of the race cars as it lost control on a bend.

Miguel had recently posted photos on his Facebook page showing him tenderly touching his girlfriend’s bump.

Miguel, a keen motor racing fan, is understood to have persuaded her to watch the rally a short drive from their home.

Two more people – an adult and another child – are said to be in a “serious” condition in hospital while five more remain in hospital. Ten others have been released from hospital following treatment.
