A girl has died following a crash at a Spanish car rally, taking the total number of people killed in Saturday’s accident to seven.
The child, who has not been identified but is reported by El Pais to be 12 years old, was one of six people injured after a car careered off a track and slammed into around 20 people.
A hospital spokesman said she died of her injuries late on Sunday night.
Five people are still in hospital.
The crash happened during the Coruna race near the town of Carral in the Galicia region, where the car’s driver Sergio Tabeayo Sande and co-driver Luis Prego are understood to be from.
They were treated for minor injuries and have been speaking to psychologists following the tragedy.
A Civil Guard spokesman said: “One of the drivers took the track at a much higher speed than he should have and he veered off a curve, slamming into around 20 people.”
The vehicle was later towed away as an investigation into the accident got under way.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, who is from Galicia in the northwest, said on his Twitter feed: “The Coruna Rally is in mourning.
“My deepest condolences to the bereaved and wishes for a complete recovery of those injured.”
