Local media reported that a auto spun out of control during the Coruna rally in Galicia, hitting a number of spectators lining the road.

Three children were also injured and taken to hospital.

One of the women is thought to be nine months pregnant and one of the men was her partner.

Witnesses said that the location where the driver had lost control of the auto was on a bend at Carral.

The rally driver involved in the crash is reported to be from Carral, the municipality where the crash happened.

The dead included a young girl, believed to be about eight years old, according to Spanish newspapers.

Rally cars “go too fast for that kind of road”, a police spokesman said.

The Mirror reports that more than 130 cars were taking part in the rally.

Civil Guard transit officers, emergency services personnel and municipal police responded to the accident, treating the victims and assisting relatives. “I wish the injured a full and speedy recovery”.

Prime minister Mariano Rajoy tweeted his condolences, saying the Coruna Rally had been left in mourning.
