Moto3. Navarro Sets New Lap Record And Gets His First World Championship Pole

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Jorge Navarro impressed in the qualifying session at the British Grand Prix, topping the standings with a record lap. His teammate Fabio Quartararo, 11th, will start from the fourth row of the grid.

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider, Jorge Navarro, continued his good progress in qualifying today at the Silverstone Circuit to set the fastest time, giving him his first pole position in the World Championship as he clocked a new circuit record in Moto3.

Early in the morning, the rider from Pobla de Vallbona led the timesheets with a 2’13.842, creeping into the 2’13 range, with his sights on the previous fastest Moto3 lap of Silverstone (2’13.112) which was set by Álex Rins last season with Team Estrella Galicia 0.0. Meanwhile, in the last seconds of the session Fabio Quartararo set his best lap of the outing. As the Frenchman had predicted yesterday, today he improved his times and concluded in fifth, just 93 thousandths behind teammate Jorge Navarro, who was third.

As usual, in the afternoon qualifying there was plenty of traffic on track, but that would not hinder Navarro who smashed the circuit record, stopping the clock at 2’12.440. His teammate Fabio Quartararo improved on his morning time with a best lap of 2’13.850s which places him on the fourth row of the grid.

The riders and their crews will push for the best possible result in the race tomorrow, which will take place at 2.30pm local time, after MotoGP and Moto2.

“I rode alone for almost of the session and getting a good time without any slipstream is very complicated here”

“The qualifying today was a bit difficult as I rode alone for almost of the session and getting a good time without any slipstream is very complicated here. I wanted to find the traffic, but they were all behind me, so we had to slow to wait for them and I didn’t want to do that because, according to the rules, this leads to a penalty. Anyway, I know that tomorrow I have the pace to fight at the front and at other races, we have seen riders who have gone away strong and in the end have struggled to be on the podium. Tomorrow I will try to keep to my strategy and will head out with the aim of fighting for the best possible result.”

1st, 2’12.440, 29 laps, 171 km

“I’ve achieved my first pole and I feel very strong for the race tomorrow”

“Today I achieved my first World Championship pole and I am thrilled. From the beginning of the year we have been working hard; we are improving race by race and finally, today we have achieved something. I am very happy because throughout the weekend my crew has done a good job with the bike, trying to make me feel more comfortable and I think we’ve got a good base.

“In the second run in qualifying I tried to find my rhythm alone, I saw that I could go pretty fast and on last lap I found a slipstream which helped me. I didn’t expect to break the lap record, but when I saw on the board that my time was 2’12.440 I was so happy. I feel very strong for tomorrow’s race and I think we are ready to push for the maximum.”
