The Mussel Regulating Council of Galicia and Galicia Consumer Union (UCGAL) have agreed to collaborate with each other to share synergies around two main axes.
One of the issues is the claim for “clear and true” labelling, which guarantees the protection of consumers and workers’ rights.
The other is related to the importance of making citizens aware of the differentiated quality offered by Galician products, and more specifically, the Protected Origin Designation (DOP) for Mejillon de Galicia (Mussel from Galicia).
The agreement, signed by the President of the Regulatory Council, Francisco Alcalde, and the president of UCGAL, Ana Olveira Blanco, also aims to develop awareness campaigns, cooperation in training and knowledge transfer, and collaboration in counseling and information exchange.
Parallel to this agreement, Mejillon de Galicia (Mussel from Galicia) has just released an impressive awareness spot, called “Mussel from Galicia, classy seafood” to warn consumers about misleading canned product labels.
The entity reaffirms its conviction that consumers need to recognize the unique brand that guarantees the Galician mussel origin: the DOP.
The spot shows what the most common mussel labelling breaches are, and emphasizes that one of the mistakes is the use of commercial claims of the type ‘from Galician estuaries’ or ‘flavour from Galicia’ on products that are not certified by the DOP.
The video will be massively spread through social and mobile networks.
