Moto3 Navarro And Quartararo Quickly Get To Grips With Dutch Track
Third and fourth for Jorge Navarro and Fabio Quartararo respectively in free practice today at the Assen TT.
The Estrella Galicia 0.0 riders started the first day of practice under a heavy sky overhead at the legendary Dutch venue. The unpredictable weather is one of the factors that make this event a tricky one for the riders, with the track conditions often changing from one session to another. Despite the rain that had fallen early in the morning there was a dry track during the morning session and Jorge Navarro featured prominently on the timesheets, riding for much of the session in second position. Ultimately he was third fastest, 0.706s down on leader Danny Kent. On the other side of the box, Fabio Quartararo improved on every lap and gradually began gaining positions. The Frenchman stopped the clock at 1’43.203, putting him fourth.
In the afternoon the fast and flowing Assen track witnessed the second practice session of the day under clear skies and the riders in the smaller category rode in sunny conditions. The track temperature was 14 degrees warmer than in FP1 (19 °C in the morning and 33 °C in the afternoon) and the Estrella Galicia 0.0 pair were able to improve on their times from the morning. In a session where all the riders rode very fast, Jorge Navarro was again third, stopping the clock at 1’42.286. Just 0.266s behind him was his teammate Quartararo, repeating his morning free practice result of fourth.
Friday morning’s third free practice in the Netherlands will take place at 9am and then at 12.35pm the qualifying session will get started, as the grid positions for Saturday’s race will be decided.
