Danny Kent waited until the final lap of the Moto3 Grand Prix of Catalunya before moving from the back of the lead group with an amazing outside pass en route to his fourth victory of the season.

The Briton had lead before in the race but with the lead in the top six changing from corner to corner his previous attempts to pull away failed as a slipstream brought the group back into play.

His last lap performance saw his Honda cross the line 0.035s clear and increase his championship lead to an incredible 51 points.

He is the first British rider to secure four wins in a season since Barry Sheene took a fianl total of six 500cc wins in 1977.

Pole-sitter Enea Bastianini had struggled with break selection on his Gresini and gave everything to try to pass but found himself blocked by Kent, narrowly missing out on his first win again, taking second for the third time this season, cementing his second in the championship standings in the process.

A new in-race lap record saw Kent’s team-mate Efren Vazquez join the front group for the stunning final lap, the leader over the line at the start Vazquez could not quite catch the lead pair after tangling on the inside as Kent flew around the outside and clear, but took third to complete an all Honda podium and was the top Spanish rider on home soil.

Niccolo Antonelli was just raced out of the rostrum spots in the drag to the line, but the Ongetta-Rivacold rider still recorded his best finish of the season in fourth.

Early leader and winner of the last round in Mugello, Miguel Oliveira, finished fifth and the top KTM for the Red Bull Ajo team, just holding off the last of the leaders Estrella Galicia’s top rookie Jorge Navarro who took the flag in sixth.

The chasing group were lead over the line by Isaac Vinales, over second seconds adrift. It was an incredible comeback for the Husqvarna rider after qualifying way down in 20th position.

Romano Fenati was ragged and determined on his way to eighth for the Sky Racing VR46 team, just behind Vinales, the pair were well clear of a solo Brad Binder on the second Red Bull KTM Ajo bike in the points in ninth.

Philipp Oettl equalled his best finish of the season to make the top ten again for Schedl GP Racing.

Jorge Martin (Mapfre Team Mahindra)won the immense battle for eleventh which took a few casualties along the way, holding off Andrea Locatelli (Gresini) in 12th, Niklas Ajo (RBA Racing) in 13th and the second Estrella Galicia of Fabio Quartararo in 14th.

Husqvarna Factory Laglisse rider Maria Herrera was the last rider in that group to score a point in 15th , her first championship point.

Qatar winner Alexis Masbou’s race ended before it had begun as his SaxoPrint-RTG bike needed a push start on the warm-up lap, leading to a pit lane start for the Frenchman, he eventually finished 18th. The teams hard luck continued as John McPhee crashed out halfway through the race.

Jakub Kornfeil, Stefano Manzi and Gabriel Rodrigo all failed to make it to the end of lap one after tangling, Hiroki Ono was the next to fall after seven laps, sliding out of the lead group.

Jorge Martin was the big loser in the big battle for eleventh, falling with seven laps remaining as Quartararo passed underneath him. He was closely followed by Andrea Migno from the same warring group and back marker Remy Gardner.

Also failing to go the distance was late fallers Darryn Binder and Ajo rider Karel Hanika also falling from the big mid pack after being shunted off by Jules Danilo. Francesco Bagnaia crashed on the final lap but remounted for 20th.
