MADRID (Sputnik) — The Spanish civil guard found a large stockpile of arms and ammunition on the North-West of the country and detained one person in A Coruna municipality, the body reported on its website Wednesday.
The civil guard found some 110 assault rifles, pistols, carbines, revolvers and other items, as well as 130,000 metallic cartridges.
The operation GARAND was part of Spain’s plan to control the use and distribution of firearms.
Spanish law on firearms control is highly restrictive. The right to carry guns is considered to be a privilege that is granted by the government. Automatic weapons are strictly forbidden for civilian use.
