More mussel polygons closed due to biotoxin

The Secretariat of Marine Affairs of Xunta de Galicia has decided to close five mussel raft polygons in the estuary of Vigo, after checking the presence of lipophilic toxin in excess of the legally established amounts.
Based on the results of an investigation conducted by experts from the Technological Institute for the Marine Environment Control of Galicia (INTECMAR), the mussel polygons that were closed are: Cangas G, H, C and D and Vigo A.
Furthermore, the polygons of floating nurseries of the estuary of Ares-Betanzos Sada 1 and Sada 2 are closed. And in that of Arousa, 17 polygons remain open and eight polygons are closed, EFE agency reported.
In addition, the authority banned the capture in Baiona A, Corme B, in the estuaries of Baiona and Corme-Laxe; and Muros A, B and C as well as Noia A in the estuary of Muros and Noia remain closed; Cangas A and B, Bueu B, A2 and A1 and Portonovo A, B and C, in the estuary of Pontevedra; and the polygons Cangas E and F, in the estuary of Vigo, with Redondela A remain open whereas Redondela A (oyster) and B, C, D, and E remain closed.
A large proportion of workers in the mussel raft sector in Galicia will remain inactive for a while, since only 15 polygons of the estuary of Arousa and one of Vigo remain open for capture, out of a total of 50 in the whole autonomous community, as it has been reported by La Opinión.
