19 de abril de 2015, 12:00Havana, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) The 26th Festival Huella de España ends in Cuba with works that illustrate the Galician roots in the Caribbean archipelago.

The 26th edition of the event was devoted to the autonomous community of Galicia, a region of extensive links with Cuba as the Galician emigration was one of the major received by the island in the early twentieth century, recalled the artistic director Irene Rodriguez.

The Festival opened last April 12 included a representation of all the arts: dance, music, singing, art, literature, theater, cinema.

The songwriter Andrés Suárez, who shared a concert with Cuban trova group Buena Fe, and one of the most virtuous Spanish bagpipes player, Cristina Pato, who performed at the national Museum of Fine Arts were some of the representatives from Galicia.

Throughout the festival, the museum held an exhibition entitled Art and ritual in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, with 20 photographs taken by the Spanish Luis Gabu, as the result of his research and experiences about pilgrimages to Compostela.

For her part, Rodriguez will offer from the choreography a contemporary vision of Galician folklore with the premiere this afternoon of El ultimo Gaitero en la Habana (The Last Bagpiper in Havana), a tribute to Eduardo Lorenzo, who was the last citizen from Galicia who settled in Cuba.

Lorenzo was commissioned to transmit to future generations not only the art of playing the Galician bagpiper but also its design, how to build it and play it, the choreographer explained to Prensa Latina.

Therefore I call upon the music, in the hands of Noel Gutierrez, songwriter and guitarist from my company but also played by the band of bagpipes of Havana, directed by Arturo Pérez, and the choir of the Cultural Society Rosalia de Castro, said the choreographer who was inspired by the documentary The Last bagpipers in Havana.

Nine dancers and 15 musicians will premiere the piece in the Mella Theater, where the piece Majísimo by the National Ballet of Cuba will accentuate Hispanic airs, with the fresh choreography of Jorge Garcia and music composed by French Jules Massenet inspired in his tour through several Spanish regions.

Majísimo turns 50 years of its premiere and no better place than this event for such a virtuoso ballet with such a beautiful Hispanic root, said Rodriguez.

According to the young artistic director, professionals and amateurs involved in the 26 Festival La Huella de España showed the best of Galician roots and traditions in Cuba.
