Galicia was nearly as big as present-day Austria, and around 1900 its capital Lviv was the fourth-largest city of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. 

The western part of the region belongs to Poland today, the eastern half lies within the Ukrainian border.

James O’Hara spoke to the exhibition’s curator, Werner Michael Schwarz, about this mysterious region which vanished from the maps after the collapse of the Hapsburg monarchy.
