Seiner owners of Portosin, A Coruna, expressed their rejection over the proposal for joint allocation of jack mackerel quota, El Correo Gallego reported.

The Seiner Owner Association of Galicia (ACERGA) proposed the quota should be distributed equally among theĀ entire fleet of the region, however shipowners believe that larger vessels — with more than 12 crew members — must have a larger quota than small vessels carrying between four and seven crew members

Dissatisfied workers from the purse seine sector will held a meeting with the Galician Fisheries Council to defend the individual quota distribution.

Meanwhile, the Galician sector hopes jack mackerel prices will rise with a quota limit of six metric tons per day per vessel.
