2014 Sepang Moto3 Preview | Can Millers Comeback Continue?2014 Sepang Moto3 Preview

Heading into the Tissot Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island, the Australian Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Jack Miller seemed to be fading down the stretch of the 2014 Moto3 season.

He fell out of the lead and dropped 25 points behind current series points leader Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0) – the younger brother of MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez – over the course of the last three rounds.

But Miller didn’t quit, and the resurgent Aussie came up with a win at the Australian round by 0.029 of a second over runner-up finisher Marquez.

Miller cut Marquez’s 25 point lead to 20 points. This battle now continues this weekend during the penultimate round of Moto3 at Sepang International Circuit.

No doubt Marquez would like to go out on top, as he prepares to move up to Moto2 in 2015. But Miller is headed to MotoGP, and taking the 2014 Moto3 title with him would be a thing worth pushing hard for.

Alex Rins, Marquez’s teammate, is 41 points out of first place and 21 points behind Miller in third overall; close enough to make things interesting for Miller, perhaps but not likely close enough to overtake Marquez with only two rounds remaining. Still, this is racing and Rins is coming off a strong third place finish at Phillip Island.

SaxoPrint-RTG rider Efren Vazquez trails Rins by 23 points in fourth place with 187 and finished fourth at the Australian GP.

Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46) is in fifth place only 13 points behind Vazquez with 174. Though he crashed out at Phillip Island he has been in the hunt for the podium and has a victory at Aragon to his credit, so though the title is out of reach, a win at Sepang is not.

The 2014 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix gets under way Friday, Oct. 24, at 9 a.m. local time with Moto3 FP1.
