2014 Motegi Moto3 Preview – Title Race Tight Heading into Motul Grand Prix of Japan
The 2014 Moto3 Championship title fight continues this weekend at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan at Twin Ring Motegi.
As the series heads to Japan, Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Marquez has the points lead. This was due to his second-place at Aragon two weeks ago. The Spaniard finish behind Aragon winner Romano Fenati (ITA—SKY Racing Team VR46), and was able bump Australian Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in the points standings.
With four rounds remaining, the younger brother of MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez has 206 points. Miller, who finished 27th at Aragon, fell out of the lead and into second place with 195 points.
Marquez has to feel good about his chances of stretching the lead, as well, being that his first GP victory came at the Motegi circuit a year ago.
Marquez’s Estrella Galicia 0,0 teammate, Alex Rins, finished fourth at Aragon, 11.631 seconds behind Fenati, but that position kept him in the points race with 188, only seven points behind Miller and 18 points out of first place. Rins has proven he knows how to win with victories at Silverstone and Misano this season.
Trailing Rins by 23 points is Italian rider Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46) who was victorious at Aragon.
The gap between race winner Fenati and second place finisher Marquez at Aragon less than a tenth of a second and the intensity of the competition among the top five shows no sign of letting up. Efren Vazquez is in fifth position with 154 points.
