Mystery bomb rocks town hall in Galicia
The town hall of the Galician municipality of Baralla has been partly destroyed by an explosive device which went off at 4.50 am, Spanish news agency Europa Press reported.
Spain’s Civil Guard police are currently investigating the matter and haven’t ruled out the possibility that Resistencia Galega, a Galician separatist group notorious for planting bombs in banks and political party offices, could be behind the explosion.
The ground floor of the building has suffered most of the damage, with nearby buildings also being affected by the explosion.
Baralla’s right-wing mayor Manuel González Capón has also been the source of controversy in the past with comments such as “those who were sentenced to death” during the years of dictatorship under General Francisco Franco “probably deserved it”.
