Berizzo: ‘We rule Galicia’
Celta Vigo boss Eduardo ‘Toto’ Berizzo proclaimed his team ‘rulers of Galicia’ after the 2-1 derby defeat of Deportivo la Coruna.
Goals from Nolito and Joaquin Larrivey either side of an Isaac Cuenca strike were enough to give Berizzo’s men victory, although the Argentine admitted his players had not been at their best and had goalkeeper Sergio’s late penalty save to thank for the points.
“In a derby game such as this a win is a big morale boost for the team, but it was not an easy game. The penalty gave it special drama but the important thing is that we won.
“We wanted to win it for the fans and that’s what we did,” he told the post-match Press conference.
Berizzo, who has sampled what it is like to experience a Galician derby from his time as a player at Balaidos, acknowledged his side had struggled after Depor equalised.
“We fell back too much in the last few minutes and they hurt us with long balls. Fortunately we had Larrivey’s goal on the counter-attack that helped us kill the game, and then came the penalty miss.
“But this win is for the players and supporters, who will be filled with pride and joy, and today we can say that we are the rulers of Galicia,” he declared.
