Berizzo: Today we can say that we own Galicia
Filed Under EN
Celta Vigo manager, Eduardo “Toto” Berizzo was elated following his side’s 2-1 Galician Derby win over Deportivo La Coruna and insists that they proved that they are the best team in Galicia.
In his post-match press conference, Berizzo feels that this win will be a massive boost for the team and is happy for his team and the fans.
“In a derby, in a game like this, winning gives us a massive boost, it gives us a boost in morale. It wasn’t an easy match. The penalty made things a bit more dramatic but the important thing is that we won. The fans wanted to win, we wanted to win and we did it.
“We sat back too deep in the final minutes because Depor, with their long balls, hurt us. We had the goal by Larrivey to kill the match, we fouled and then gave up a penalty. Fortunately, Sergio stopped it; but I’m happy with the work of the entire team. This win is for the players.”
Berizzo went on to praise both sides for their performances and putting on a good image of Galician football.
“It fills me with pride with the power this brings to the fans, to the celtismo, celebrating this victory because I know how much they enjoy it and the most important thing is to win the derby. Today we can say that we own Galicia.
“We couldn’t play like we normally do, but that was down to nerves to play such an important game. We don’t usually move the ball around that well and we were rushing to finish the attack. It was more of a fight than a game, but winning was important.”
