Rins wins as Alex Marquez completes team one-two

Indeed with Rins taking the win by just 0.011s from Marquez after battle right to the final corner it was an exciting race for the team and for spectators alike. Enea Bastianini (Junior Team GOFUN Moto3) and Miguel Oliveira (Mahindra Racing) had also run with the Spanish pair in a leading group of four riders, but Rins would ultimately come out on top.
Marquez remains second in the overall standings and the gap to Jack Miller has been cut to just 13 points. Rins moves up to third place, 29 behind the leader.
A delighted Rins commented on his first triumph since Phillip Island 2013, saying, “I am very happy to have taken this win. Everything worked out well for us – the last three corners were perfect – although it was very difficult to follow a strategy when part of a four-rider group fighting hard to win.”
“I think that both my teammate, Alex Marquez, and I had planned to push hard from the start to make it a small group, but we had both Bastianini and (Niccolo) Antonelli making things difficult at the beginning. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the race and it went by very quickly. This victory is undoubtedly down to teamwork and the support of Honda.”
Marquez added, “I’m happy with this result because I think we had a very good race, fighting for the win from the beginning. I tried reducing the lead group by setting a strong pace, but it was really hard to break away with all the slipstreaming. By mid-race we had broken away and were in a group of four, and that gave us a little more tranquility for the end of the race. I tried for the win until the last corner and maybe I lacked a bit of aggression, but I think we rode a very good race.”
“The most important thing is to keep on cutting points to the leader. We are just 13 points behind now.”
