Authorities in Galicia, Spain, have decided to ban the capture of mussels in 18 of the 55 wooden platforms out in the water due to red tide presence, reported La Voz de Galicia.
The ban involves 32% of total mussel production in the floating nurseries – or bateas, in Spanish.
Although the harmful algal blooming, also known as red tide, decreased in July, the phenomenon has started again in recent days.
