Spanish canner Jealsa Rianxeira is expected to create 1,000 jobs with a new cannery in Brazil, reports La Voz de Galicia.
Following success in establishing itself in Chile, the Brazilian government under Dilma Rousseff invited Jealsa to take part in its ‘Ciudad de la Pesca’ (City of Fishing) project designed to boost the sector.
Brazil’s fisheries and aquaculture minister Eduardo Lopes, confirmed the collaboration.
“Yo could not find a better company this. I just visited two of its canneries and I am very happy to see that, if invested with discretion, the results are more than satisfactory.”
“We want this for Brazil, we have all the raw materials and we are investing a lot of money to renew the fleet. So when you think of a business group marketing what we produce, the name Jealsa Rianxeira immediately comes to mind.”
Rival Spanish canner Calvo is already present in Brazil, where it owns the Gomes da Costa brand.
