GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas –

A child was killed and two others injured when their father’s vehicle left the road and rolled several times, according to officials.

The crash happened Thursday afternoon on the Gulf Freeway and FM 146. Officials said the child’s father was driving his four children when he lost control and ran off the road. The car rolled over several times and two of the children were ejected.

A 3-year-old boy was transported to the hospital where he died.

The other children, ages 2 and 5, were taken to the hospital. The two were seriously injured and remained at UTMB Thursday night.

Officials said one child has a broken neck. The other one is being treated for brain swelling.

A 7-month-old child was treated at the scene and released to a family member.

Deputies said two of the children were riding in booster seats and one was secured in a child car seat.

The father, identified as 23-year-old Jesse Galicia, said he had mechanical steering problems, but deputies said he may have been under the influence.

Deputies said narcotics, such as Xanax, were found in and around the vehicle.

Galicia was taken into custody.

He is charged with tampering with physical evidence and DWI with a child. He’s being held at the Galveston County Jail on a $310,000 bond.

Tests are being done to determine what Galicia allegedly had in his system at the time of the wreck.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are expected to be filed.
