TWO men have died and three are missing after a fishing boat sank off the coast of the northern region of Asturias in the Bay of Biscay.
The Mar Nosso, which bears the Portuguese flag, was carrying 12 passengers when it capsized 20 miles north of the Ría de Navia, one of the Galicia region’s many estuaries..
Seven of the men on board have been rescued alive, four of whom were air-lifted to hospital with severe hypothermia.
Two of these were later taken to the Jove and Cabueñes hospitals in Gijón, on the coast of Asturias.
The bodies of two fishermen were also found and transferred to Gijón port, and three others remain missing, feared dead.
According to port authorities in Marín (Asturias) where the Mar Nosso is normally based, five of the crew are Spaniards from the north-western region of Galicia and seven are Portuguese.
The two deceased are from Portugal.
Coastguard rescuers were alerted by the crew on board the fishing boat Mar da Galega, from Galicia, which was a mile away at the time.
