Adif has issued the tender for a €641 million track systems contract for the high-speed line between Madrid and Galicia.

The contract will cover a section of the line between Olmedo and Ourense, encompassing centralised traffic control, signalling and telecommunications and auxiliary detection systems.

Commissioning of the Ourense-Zamora section will complete the final segment of the Northwest Corridor, connecting up the the 150 kilometre-long Ourense-Santiago-A Coruña line with central Spain.

The project is expected to be fully completed by 2018, having received more than €200 million from the European Regional Development Fund to co-finance the line.

The electrified double-track railway will accomodate train speeds of 350km/h.
