Ontario police arrested an Ontario man about 30 minutes after a pursuit, two-car collision and carjacking in Chino.
Obed Galicia, 19, is being held on $170,000 bail at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. He faces charges of hit-and-run, felony evading and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Police in Chino were called at 9:17 p.m. Dec. 20 to Yorba Avenue and Riverside Drive on a report of a two-car crash. One of the cars rolled after striking a traffic signal pole, spokeswoman Michelle Van Der Linden said.
Mr. Galicia was driving a 2003 Honda Civic westbound on Riverside Drive and collided with a 2012 Honda Civic driven by MaLucia Aguirre, 25, of Chino. Ms. Aguirre was taken to a hospital after the crash, the spokeswoman added.
After Mr. Galicia lost control, his vehicle struck a curb and a traffic signal, then overturned, Ms. Van Der Linden said.
He stole the vehicle of a passerby and fled, leading officers into Ontario in a pursuit that ended at 9:44 p.m. at Magnolia Avenue and Mission Boulevard.
