06 de diciembre de 2013, 15:53Havana, Dec 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and the president of the Autonomous Community of Galicia in Spain, Alberto Nuñez, agreed today to increase and expand the bilateral and historical links between their countries.

Nuñez was received at the Foreign Ministry on Friday, the second day of his visit to the island, where he has a busy agenda.

Rodriguez told Nuñez that the Cuban government wants to renew bilateral ties in the context of updating its social and economic model.

Nuñez, for his part, referred to the historical links between Galicians and Cubans, which date back to the formation of the Cuban nationality. He recognized the role played by Fidel Castro and deceased former Galician president Manuel Fraga in the unity between their nations.

He said that despite the crisis in Europe, Galicia wants closer relations with Galician associations in Cuba, a country he considered a priority for the interests of his government.

Presently, cooperation in the business, social and cultural spheres is good and the will of both peoples is to continue cultivating their relations, he said.

On Thursday, Nuñez took part in the launching of the books The Galician-Cuban Fidel Castro and a Cuban-Galician, by Miguel Angel Alvelo, as well as Galicia in Cuba, Part I, by Bruno Javier Machado.

The same day, Nuñez participated in the signing of a cooperation agreement between the chambers of commerce of Cuba and Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
