Havana, Cuba, Dec 5.- Alberto Nuñez Feijoo, president of the regional government of Galicia (northwest of Spain), will begin today an institutional visit to Cuba, where he plans to strengthen cultural bonds with the island and express support for the 38,500 Galicians living in it.

As informed on Wednesday by the Xunta (the autonomous government of Galicia), Nuñez Feijoo, of the Popular Party, will meet with Cuban authorities and with the group of Galicians living in the country, considered to be one of the largest colonies of Latin America. These meetings will contribute to strengthen historic and cultural bonds between Galicia and Cuba, and also to find new ways for the international performance of Galician economy, the Cubadebate Web site reported on Wednesday.
 
This is the first institutional visit of Nuñez Feijoo to the island.  He will be the third Galician president visiting it, after Manuel Fraga and Emilio Perez.
 
According to a communique by the Galician government, Cuba offers opportunities of export and investment in strategic sectors for Galicia, like agriculture, cattle raising, fishing, renewable energy, public construction.
 
Nuñez Feijoo’s agenda also includes his attendance to the signing of an agreement of union between 38 Galician entities in Cuba.
 
With this trip, in which entrepreneurs with interests in various areas participate, Nuñez Feijoo also hopes to strengthen commercial and business relations, and will attend a Cuban-Galician Business Forum and a working breakfast with members of the Association of Spanish Entrepreneurs in Cuba.
 
During his stay on the Caribbean island, the Galician president will also take part in cultural activities to underscore the relations of “affection and attachment” existing between Galicia and Cuba.(ACN)
